OUR MISSION

SOURCE paper is a full spectrum, bi-annual literary journal located on Orcas Island.

Our purpose is to artfully weave our innate connection with nature, each other and current events through the lens of intentional community journalism. Our goal at Source Paper is to bring light to all of life’s moments; the profound, the quiet, and the esoteric, to the issues of today through the voices of our Island by, lessening neighborhood tensions, eliminating prejudices, discrimination and combating community deterioration. As the human desire to seek connection grows stronger than ever, we feel a bridge is needed on Orcas Island between a journaling platform and a non-judgmental space for all creative voices. Boundlessly inclusive, filled with limitless ideas and fuelled by love and above all else — the Source for magical thinking.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

At SOURCE paper we acknowledge that we reside on stolen territories of the Coast Salish Nations who have traveled to these lands for seasonal harvesting, ceremony, hunting and permanent residence since time immemorial.

We recognize that Coast Salish Nations are the original inhabitants of the lands and waters of the Salish Sea and that their ways of life are built upon reciprocity. We acknowledge the damage colonialism has on their way of life and actively work towards creating a society based on mutual well-being for all Life.

In this acknowledgment, we name our position as guests, intentionally working towards supporting rematriation.
May we come together to heal what has been lost.

OUR STORY

SOURCE paper was created by two friends, Jaime Beechum and Kelly Maria Francis.

The synchronicities between Jaime and Kelly were present from the moment they met on a quiet winter morning at Catkin Cafe in 2017. Both had landed on Orcas, awakened after separately spending over a decade in an industry that no longer served the larger purpose. It was then that the seed was planted, at first an inspiring new friendship, and in time rooted with the intention to seek connection within the island community, to the very soul of the lands and waters they humbly reside on.
